James
Coop was born in 1786 and christened in Westhoughton on 12th August
1786. He was the son of James Coop (1760) and Elizabeth Holden. He
married Mary Hodkinson at St Peter's church, Bolton-le-Moors on 1st
December 1816. In 1841 he was working as a cotton weaver and living
in Dobb Brow, Deane - later Westhoughton. In 1847 he was a weaver.
In 1851 he was a widower, working as a cotton weaver and lodging with
silk weaver Robert Woodward in Dobb Brow, Westhoughton. In 1861 he
was living in the household of his son-in-law, William Hodgkinson,
at Chew Moor, Rumworth. He died of old age in the union workhouse in Farnworth in 1867. His age was given as 85, but he was probably 81 - nothing of his past life was known about him.
