Charles
Houchen was born in 1817 in Hingham and was the son of William King Houchen
(1794) and Susannah George. He was the nephew of Mary Houchen (1789). He married Susan
Clarke in Hingham in 1840. In 1847 he was a witness at the wedding
of his sister Mary Ann. In 1851 he was aged 34 and was a labourer
living at Whittle End, North Witchford, Cambs. The family emigrated to America sometime before 1861 and became farmers. In 1880, Charles was farming in Centralia, Marion County, Illinois.
